The Mac-Gray story begins in 1927 when H.S. Gray founded the company by selling Maytag wringer washers door-to-door. Several years later he led the coin laundry era by installing a coin box on an ordinary washing machine. During the 1950's, Mac-Gray began providing laundry services to colleges and multi-housing communities. As an official Maytag distributor, Mac-Gray established a commercial sales division that has helped to launch hundreds of self-service laundromats.
As early as the 1980's, Mac-Gray introduced advanced European washing machines into the U.S. commercial laundry market. These machines were more water and energy efficient than any machines on the market. In the 1990's, Mac-Gray again led the industry by adapting Smart Card Technology to the commercial laundry market. In 1997, Mac-Gray became a publicly traded company and is listed as TUC on the NYSE. Mac-Gray extended its superior customer service and unsurpassed quality by acquiring the CopicoŽ and MicroFridgeŽ /Intirion Corporations.
In the 21st Century Mac-Gray expanded it products and services to the multi-housing industry by offering domestic appliances through its
Maytag Direct division. Recently, building upon its foundation of technological
innovation, Mac-Gray introduced its Intelligent Laundry Systems to the industry, which offer unparalleled amenities to properties.
